Filipino is the national language of the Philippines and is an Austronesian language that is based on existing native languages in the Philippines, the most significant influence being the Tagalog language. A large number of Spanish and English loanwords also exist in the vocabulary. The Filipino language remains in evolution, development, and further enrichment on the basis of existing languages of the Philippines and other languages. It is the first language of Filipinos living in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, and the second language of most Filipinos.
Sometimes the term "Filipino" is incorrectly used as the generic name for all the languages of the Philippines, and because of its similarity to the language on which it is based, it is still sometimes identified with Tagalog. The Filipino language is spoken by 25 million people as their native language and by 60 million people as their second language.
The economy of the Philippines is the 4th largest economy in South East Asia, and analysts were stunned by a surprise boom of the economy to 7.3% from an expected 3.6% forecast for the first quarter of 2010, which indicates that Filipino translation services will continue to be a valuable asset to companies across the globe.
